BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Introduction:

Peggy Barnes is a mediator in private practice. She brings to the mediation table extensive experience helping people resolve problems. She has a background in Social Welfare and Human Rights. Through her work and volunteer activities she has had experience working with virtually all types of people including persons undergoing drug and criminal rehabilitation, hospital and mental hospital patients, students, seniors,  teachers, principals, businessmen, lawyers, administrators, ministers and legislators.  Her understanding and respect of all types of people makes her uniquely qualified to be a mediator.

Education:

Ms. Barnes received a B.S. from the University of Nebraska and a Masters in Social Work from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Her Conflict Resolution training includes Basic Mediation as well as training at the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs, U. S. Postal Service, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Centinela Youth Services, Los Angeles County Bar Association and numerous seminars and workshops.

Professional Associations & Honors:

Peggy Barnes is a member of the Southern California Mediators Association and has International Mediation Certification with IMI (International Mediation Institute). She was on the Board of Directors for New Era Seniors International for 10 years, is the International Mediator for the Africa Network for Peace and Justice and has been active in Human Rights advocacy activities in the United States and India. She was awarded the Volunteer Service Award for Lifetime Contributions to the Community and the Nation from the President of the United States.

Mediation Experience: 

Peggy Barnes has mediated in the areas of Employment, Consumer & Business including Real Estate, Construction, Landlord Tenant, Automotive, Consumer Fraud, Trauma Cleanup, Banking and Financial. She also has specialized knowledge and experience in Elder Issues, Health, Alternative Health, Disaster Housing, Ecological Housing, Non-profit Organizations,Civil Rights, Human Rights, Acting, Production Companies. She has served at Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs, U.S. Postal Service, Centinela Youth Services, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Western Justice Center.

Related experiences include holding family conferences and community facilitations as well as instructing and coaching peer mediators.

Ms. Barnes is known for her calm attitude and common sense. She is very good at getting people to work together and at helping them come up with creative solutions to resolve their conflicts. She handles a wide variety of cases. In areas of a highly technical nature Ms. Barnes may co-mediate combining her ability to facilitate cooperation between parties with another mediator's technical expertise in order to bring about optimum results for the parties. 

Ms. Barnes is based in Southern California. She is also willing to travel to other areas. She is qualified to do IRS Appeals Courts mediations and the United States Postal Service mediations in all 50 states.  She keeps her rates reasonable in order to help as many people as possible.
